The City of Danville and Pittsylvania County established a Small Business Incubator Committee to investigate the prospects of an incubator based on the leadership and vision of the Economic Development bodies.
The 1996 General Assembly provided $150K for the project. Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology and USDA assisted in providing the feasibility study funding in 1997 and the Virginia Department of Business Assistance’s Virginia Small Business Incubator Program provided $150K operational funding. Both the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County committed $526K each in funding from the Regional Competitiveness Act, utilizing the project as a model of regional cooperation to enhance economic development in the region. They pledged the monies as a match for a federal grant from the US Economic Development Administration. Since the inception, the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County provided an additional $25K each to support an electrical upgrade for the labs and manufacturing areas to incorporate 480 electrical service. They also provided $25K each for operational funding.
